I'll be attending Iowa State in two years (I'm going to transfer from Kirkwood) as a physics major. I haven't been able to find much information about educational requirements, so I was wondering if anyone here could help.

Firstly, I was wondering how many years of college are required for a student intending to go into the fields or either nuclear physics or theoretical physics? I know I'll need a doctoral or postdoctoral degree for most jobs in the field; does Iowa State offer either of these, and if not, where is the best institution to acquire them? What courses here at Kirkwood are best for preparation for this major, aside from the blatantly obvious math and physics courses? Is there any other important information I will need to know going into this?

Thanks in advance for any help

I am a prospective student and had a quick question before attending. No one else in my family has been to college, and the guidance counselors at my high school are less than useful, so I was just wondering if my college plan will actually work.

I intend to attend Kirkwood next fall, then transfer to the University of Iowa's internal medicine program. I just want to make sure if this is the right course of action, or if I'll be going to college longer than necessary?

I know this may not be a clear question (mostly because I'm having trouble with the process in general) so if you need clarification, just ask!

This is my first semester and for next semester I am a bit confused when I can register. Can I start resistering on the 15th or is that only for certain majors?

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I'm a prospective student for Kirkwood and do not yet attend.

Anyways, I'm interested in internal medicine and was wondering if there are good courses/programs for such a major. Thanks!

So, is anyone else going to that Movin' and Shakin' thing on Monday? I don't have to work, so I think I might venture over and actually try to socialize...

So, I'm back to bug you all. My friend and I have found an apartment in Cedar Rapids, and will be moving up next weekend. Anyone know of any places off the top of their heads that are hiring? I'm going to apply at some knitting stores, because that would be awesome if I could get hired at one, and some pet stores/animal hospitals because I have experience working at one down here. I'm also interested in doing some bartending or waiting. However, I don't have my heart set on anything, and I'll apply anywhere I can.

Also, what is there to do in Cedar Rapids while Kirkwood isn't in session? I won't know anyone up there, and I'm eager to start meeting new people.

Hi. I've been kinda lurking on this community for a while, so maybe it's time I say something.

My name is Mike, I'm a senior at a small high school in southeastern Iowa, and I'll be attending Kirkwood this fall. Currently, I'm slotted to get my liberal arts degree and will go on to UIowa to get my degree in English, as well as French and Spanish.

Right now, my friend and I are looking for an apartment. She'll be going to Kirkwood as well. We're having a hard time finding one that will allow us to have our pets (three ferrets and a rat). We'd like to move up around the end of June so that we can get settled in the area and get jobs.

I do have a few questions, if any of you current students can answer them...

- What are the foreign language classes like, especially French?
- How is the GLBT community at Kirkwood? In Cedar Rapids?

Thanks :)

Does anyone know where you can get one of those class schedule thingies for next year? I need to decide what classes to take. Or does anyone have one that I could borrow? Thanks for anyone's help.

Hi. I just joined. I am originally from Maryland but I moved to Iowa because my boyfriend is pre-med at the university and I wanted to be closer to him. I started going to Kirkwood last fall and I'm in the medical assisting program. I personally think it sucks and is a lot of busy work. I am lucky because my bf goes to kirkwood with me. He is getting his AA in medical assisting to boost his med school applications. I am getting my AA to get out of retail and eventually want to be a lactation consultant. hm. I don't have many friends in Iowa but I've been here for 2 1/2 years. I did go to college in Maryland but I didn't know what I wanted to do then so it was just gen. eds. That about sums it up. oh yea. ATAW classes with teachers that don't know how to make websites suck :)
